Redescription of two known species of Taeniacanthus Sumpf, 1871 (Copepoda, Cyclopoida, Taeniacanthidae), parasitic on Japanese puffers (Actinopterygii)

Abstract Taeniacanthus kitamakura Yamaguti & Yamasu, 1959 and T. yamagutii (Shiino, 1957) are redescribed based on specimens recovered from the brown-lined puffer, Canthigaster rivulata (Temminck & Schlegel, 1850), and three species of Takifugu (Tetraodontiformes, Tetraodontidae), respectively, in Japan. The copepodid V of the T. kitamakura female and the copepodid V of both sexes and copepodid IV of the female of T. yamagutii are described for the first time.
