Vibration testing analysis of impact effects at various energies on sewn sandwich plates

Recent advancements in sandwich structures have significantly enhanced their impact resistance and damage tolerance, leading to their widespread use in various applications. Stitched sandwich panels, in particular, offer improved structural integrity through their innovative core and skin configurations, which enhance both transverse shear resistance and force distribution, resulting in a lightweight yet robust construction. This study aims to evaluate the impact effects on stitched sandwich panels subjected to varying energy levels. This evaluation is crucial, as such structures may experience multiple impacts throughout their service life. The study investigates how initial damage affects the mechanical properties of the panels and their ability to withstand subsequent impacts. Non-destructive vibration testing is employed to characterize and compare the properties of damaged panels with undamaged samples from the same category. Vibration analysis allows for the evaluation of the dynamic responses of the samples, helping to understand the severity of the damage and its effects on overall impact resistance. Specimens measuring 150 × 200 × 23 mm³ are tested, and the data obtained using specialized PULSE software is used to further assess the panels' resilience to repeated impacts. This methodology provides a systematic approach to evaluating the structural integrity of damaged composite materials under impact conditions.
