An Analysis of the Effects of a Parenting Coaching and Psychological Support Program Among Mothers with Children Using Developmental Rehabilitation Services

This study aimed to verify the effects of the Parenting Coaching and Psychological Support Program to Aid the Development of Children with Slow Development (PP-SD) on parenting efficacy, parenting stress, and depression among mothers of young children utilizing developmental rehabilitation services.Thirteen mothers of young children using rehabilitation therapy services at a psychological development research institute in the K region voluntarily participated in the study.Data was collected from September 1, 2023, to February 28, 2024.The intervention group received the PP-SD program, titled "Understanding Our Slowly Growing Child," provided by professional therapists through group education (small group discussions, lectures) and individual counseling once a week for 11 sessions, each lasting 1.5 to 3 hours.Meanwhile, the control group received usual care rehabilitation services and, upon completion of the post-survey, was provided with the same educational materials or videos containing the content of the intervention group, free of charge, upon request. The collected data were statistically processed using Python. The study results showed that mothers of young children receiving developmental rehabilitation services who participated in the PP-SD program experienced a statistically significant increase in parental self-efficacy compared to the control group (Coef= .347,Z=36.084, p < .001)and a statistically significant decrease in depression (Coef= -.482, Z= -2.204, p=.028).Therefore, it is believed that the PP-SD for mothers of young children receiving developmental rehabilitation services contributes to the mothers' psychosocial health and parental roles, ultimately aiding in the promotion of child development.
