Development of a Competency Diagnosis Tool for University Students and Factor Validation Study: Focusing on A College
Recently, competency-based curricula have been gaining momentum in higher education settings, prompting the need for effective assessment tools. This study was carried out at University A to create and validate an innovative tool that objectively assesses student competencies. The tool encompasses many core and common competencies relevant to the university's curriculum. The validation process involved several rigorous steps, including a literature review to establish a theoretical framework, content and construct validity assessments, factor analysis through modification and extraction processes, and extensive survey administration. The developed tool comprises 76 items, divided into 46 core competency items (14 leadership, 8 civic consciousness, 11 communication, 13 creativity) and 30 common competency items (13 basic, 9 self-directed, 8 global).Statistical analyses demonstrated high reliability, with internal consistency coefficients of .94 for core competencies and .89for common competencies.Additionally, both convergent and discriminant validity of the tool's factors were confirmed to be satisfactory. The findings from this study provide crucial insights into student competency levels and offer foundational data that can significantly inform the development, revision, and structuring of curricula and extracurricular programs at the university level. This tool not only aids in curriculum development but also ensures that educational outcomes align with the evolving demands of higher education.
