A Comparison of the Experiences of Adult Learners in Lifelong Education Colleges and Traditional College Learners in Using Generative AI

This study aims to explore the educational use of generative AI, particularly ChatGPT, by comparing the experiences and perceptions of adult learners in Lifelong Education Colleges and traditional college learners. The goal is to identify the educational potential and limitations of generative AI and provide foundational data for developing customized educational programs. The study was conducted through a survey targeting adult learners in Lifelong Education Colleges and traditional college learners enrolled at C University in Gangwon Province. The survey was conducted online from May 31 to June 14, 2024, with 148 responses used for analysis. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 statistical program, employing frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and independent samples t-tests.The results revealed that traditional college learners had a more positive overall evaluation of their experience with ChatGPT compared to adult learners in Lifelong Education Colleges, and a statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in their satisfaction with the use of generative AI.However, both groups shared similar perceptions regarding the usefulness, impact, challenges, need for training, and the necessity of using generative AI as an educational tool.Additionally, traditional college learners were found to use generative AI for educational purposes more frequently than adult learners in Lifelong Education Colleges.
