Mandibular osteonecrosis associated with bisphosphonate use: case report
Medication-associated osteonecrosis in the jaw region (MRONJ) is a severe adverse effect resulting from the continuous use of antiresorptive or antiangiogenic drugs defined as exposure of necrotic bone or bone that can be exploited by a fistula that persists for more than eight weeks. The objective of this work aims to report the clinical case of a patient with osteonecrosis of the jaw associated with the use of bisphosphonates who underwent a surgical procedure for bone sequestration ostectomy and postoperative drug treatment. The clinical stages of osteonecrosis diagnosis, surgical treatment through curettage and sequestrectomy and postoperative follow-up with adjuvant drug therapy were described. The control of neuropathic pain in patients with osteonecrosis is extremely important for improving quality of life, where in this case it was observed that the proposed treatment was effective, demonstrated by the disappearance of pain conditions, resulting in an improvement in their stomatognathic functions during the course of treatment.
