ATUAÇÃO DA ENFERMAGEM NA PREVENÇÃO DO DESMAME PRECOCE: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA
Early weaning is the premature interruption of exclusive breastfeeding, often due to challenges faced by mothers. Nurses contribute by providing technical and emotional guidance, helping to overcome difficulties and promoting the continuity of breastfeeding. Their support is essential from prenatal to postpartum. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the main factors that contribute to early weaning, as well as the role of nurses in preventing this problem and promoting breastfeeding. This is a descriptive study, of the integrative review type. The studies were selected from the following databases: MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online), BDENF (Nursing Databases) and LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences). Only studies published between 2019 and 2024, published in English and Portuguese, were included. Of the 10 articles found in this review, most were published in 2020 (n=3), and six studies had a qualitative approach as their methodological design, with a descriptive study. When analyzing the language, there was a predominance of studies in Portuguese (n=9), regarding the journal, a greater publication in nursing journals was observed (n=6). Therefore, it is emphasized that early weaning usually occurs due to difficulties that mothers face, such as technical problems with breastfeeding and lack of support. Thus, adequate support, guidance on breastfeeding techniques, and the creation of public policies that encourage and protect the practice of exclusive breastfeeding are essential to improve breastfeeding rates.
