Effect of Electrolysis Conditions on Phase Transformations of Metallic Manganese
Electrolytic manganese crystallizes in the form of two modifications: a cubic structure with a volumecentered cubic structure (α-modification) and a metastable manganese hydride, which is erroneously attributed to the γ-modification of manganese). With an increase in the cathodic values of the electrode potential, the unstable manganese hydride passes into the stable α-modification of manganese. The article discusses the nature of the process that determines the coexistence of electrolytic manganese modifications and the laws of the phase transformation process. The influence of temperature on the structure and morphology of manganese, kinetics of electrodeposition of different phases and stages of phase transformation are studied.
