Inclusions d’apparence trapiche dans une obsidienne de Jalisco, Mexique

A cabochon-cut obsidian from Jalisco, Mexico, shows two white spherulitic inclusions on the surface, one of which was sectorized into four domains, the other into six, thus simulating a trapiche structure. This article shows how a quick identification based on first impressions can be overturned by more careful observation and, above all, by laboratory analysis.

Abstract

A cabochon-cut obsidian from Jalisco, Mexico, shows two white spherulitic inclusions on the surface, one of which was sectorized into four domains, the other into six, thus simulating a trapiche structure. This article shows how a quick identification based on first impressions can be overturned by more careful observation and, above all, by laboratory analysis.
