ITINERÁRIO TERAPÊUTICO DE UM PACIENTE COM COMPLICAÇÕES DO PÉ DIABÉTICO
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder with a hyperglycemic phenotype and high prevalence in society. When not managed properly, it evolves with significant complications, as evidenced by the fact that approximately 18 to 34% of individuals affected by this pathology develop foot ulcers. Thus, this report is a case study that aimed to address the therapeutic itinerary of a diabetic patient who developed an ulcerated lesion on the foot after trauma, as well as describe his clinical evolution, multidisciplinary care provided and the importance of patient and family involvement in the care process. This case study contributes to the learning regarding the care provided to diabetic patients and their multiple needs during their treatment and rehabilitation. It allows us to reflect on the fact that the health-disease process goes beyond biological dimensions, and that simple measures, although not simplistic, and adequate guidance on diabetes could have prevented the patient from suffering so much from this lesion. Furthermore, this entire process provided the patient in question with reflection and understanding of self-care regarding diabetes and the importance of their active role in managing it, and consequent improvement in quality of life.
