xamining theSocio-CulturalandEconomicBarriersFacedbyRuralWomeninAccessingResourcesprovided by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs):AnImperative StudyfromMuzaffarpur,Bihar
This research paper examines the socio-cultural and economic barriers that rural women encounter in accessing resources provided by NGOs in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. In a bid to foster rural development, NGOs serve a vital role in providing services including grants, healthcare, education, vocational training and support for entrepreneurship.Nevertheless, despite each of this, rural women frequently experience substantial barriers that prevent them from utilizing the most of these resources. In order to provide an in-depth understanding of the issue, an approach using mixed methods comprising quantitative and qualitative research was employed in the study.Through surveys and focus group discussion, information was obtained from 100 rural women beneficiaries in order to study their demographics, the resources they utilize and the barriers they face. The results showed that most of the beneficiaries were middle-aged, primarily from Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and had only completed their secondary school. The majority of these women were married, had joint families with a moderate level of economic participation, mostly through farming or self-employment.Even while most beneficiaries were aware of NGOs operations in their community, there are still a number of logistical, sociocultural and economic hurdles that prevent them from actually using these resources. The main obstacles that have been noted include strongly ingrained gender stereotypes that limit women's freedom of movement and capacity to make decisions, financial limitations that make it difficult for them to visit NGOs centres or pay for services and a lack of support from friends and family.Additionally, access to NGOs'resources is further hindered by practical concerns, including inadequate information dissemination and poor transportation. In spite of these obstacles, many women who do use NGO services report better living situations, especially when it comes to skill development, social standing, health and financial stability. The conclusions of the study illustrate that although NGOs considerably improve the lives of rural women, their effectiveness is impeded by persistent issues that require attention. The study highlights how important it is for NGOs to adopt more gender-specific, culturally appropriate and responsive methods. They should also improve outreach and communication efforts and strive to alleviate the financial constraints that rural women face.
