ffectiveness of Tab dexamethasone andTab Prednisonein Patients after Surgical Removal of Impacted Teeth-A prospective comparative study

Background: It is a common practice for Oral and maxillofacial surgeons to do third molar surgeries.Pain and swelling that is associated with this procedure is a frequent reasons for the patient's discomfort and apprehension.Aim: The aim is to investigate the effectiveness of Tab dexamethasone and Tab Prednisone in patients in the reduction of postoperative complications after mandibular third molar surgeries. Materials and methods:The research was carried out at Saveetha Dental College and Hospital in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The study consisted of 50 patients, 25 of whom received Tab dexamethasone and 25 individuals who received Tab Prednisone.Patients were evaluated postoperatively in terms of pain and swelling.Swelling was measured on day three and then on day seven using the four-point technique.Pain was measured on day one, day three, and day seven using a visualanalog scale.Data were analyzed using SPSS software using an independent t-test.P-values of less than 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant. Results: Patients who were given dexamethasone reported statistically significantly less pain as compared to the patients who were given prednisone on day one, day three as well and day seven. There was more reduction in swelling amongst the patients who were given dexamethasone as compared to the group of participants who were given prednisone. ResultsConclusion: Based on the data obtained, it can be inferred that Tab Prednisone was less effective in reducing the post-operative sequelae than Tab dexamethasone in the mandibular third molar surgeries.
