Optimization Design Study for Localization of Stabilized Mirror Material for the Gunner’s Primary Sight in K2 Tank
A sighting system that provides accurate information on targets and a stabilized Line-of-Sight (LOS) is a key component mounted on ground weapon systems such as tanks or armored vehicles, allowing observation, detection, and tracking of forward targets. A stabilization device is used to provide a stabilized Line-of-Sight (LOS), and the stabilization device consists of a drive system for azimuth and elevation control, which includes mechanical and electronic drive components. The mechanical drive components include a gimbal structure, stabilizing mirror, and power amplifier. The stabilization mirror uses beryllium material, which has excellent mechanical properties, to reduce alignment errors caused by vibration and shock. Beryllium is a very lightweight material, weighing only about 0.4 times that of Titanium for the same volume, and it has excellent thermal s tability in low-temperature environments. However, it i s a high-cost material that is difficult to weld due to its high melting point (1287℃), and it is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, known to cause Chronic Beryllium Disease(CBD) or Berylliosis. Therefore, to mitigate these limitations and increase industrial economic efficiency, aluminum and composite materials were studied as alternatives. To reduce weight and minimize alignment errors caused by vibration and shock, various shapes of t he s tabilizing m irror’s rear s urface w ere compared and s tudied t o meet t he n atural f requency vibration/shock specifications.
