Effect of Silver Nanotriangle Orientation on Localised Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensing Performance

This study focuses on the plasmonic characteristics of silver nanotriangles (AgNT) in localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensing applications. AgNTs are extremely valuable for LSPR sensing due to their strong plasmonic properties and high sensitivity. Among the various fabrication techniques for AgNTs, colloidal synthesis offers a cost-effective and relatively simple preparation method. However, the random distribution of AgNTs in colloids affects the reliability of sensors. Using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation method, we examined the impact of the disordered distribution of AgNTs in colloids on their plasmonic properties. Our simulations demonstrate that the disordered ensemble of AgNTs in colloids results in uneven plasmonic properties. Additionally, we found that the non-monotonic response of LSPR sensors based on colloidal AgNTs can be attributed to the modal strong coupling phenomenon.
