"Orthodontic Treatment of Complex Malocclusions: Multidisciplinary Approaches and Case Studies for Improved Patient Outcomes"

Background: Treatment of complex malocclusions is usually a combined effort of orthodontists and surgeons, and may involve both orthodontic and surgical procedures. This paper aims at discussing the treatment of severe malocclusions and the efficiency of the combined approach based on case descriptions.Cases: This study presents four cases: 1) A 25-year-old female with severe Class III malocclusion and mandibular prognathism, managed with bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) combined with orthodontic treatment; 2) A 32-year-old male presenting with a complex skeletal open bite and vertical discrepancies, treated using temporary anchorage devices (TADs) and maxillary impaction surgery; 3) A 21-year-old female with significant anterior dental crowding and crossbite, addressed with fixed orthodontic appliances and premolar extractions; 4) A 29-year-old male with Class II Division 1 malocclusion and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), treated through a combination of orthodontic therapy, splint therapy, and a subsequent surgical intervention. Conclusions:The cases show that the treatment of complicated malocclusions is best done through a team approach that addresses both the dental and the skeletal components. These findings support the use of integrated care approaches to achieve substantial improvements in occlusion, function, and patient satisfaction.
