Non Conductive Gun for Electric Vehicle Charging

Conductive charging through a charging gun re-quires physical connection with the on-board power electronics with the limitation of proper handling during insertion and removal. Present paper utilizes the concept of wireless power transfer (WPT) to overcome the limitation with the conventional charging gun. A concept of non-conductive charging gun is introduced, where it consists of transmitting coils and com-pensation arrangement receiving energy from the grid and is termed as non conductive charging gun. Receiving coil remains the part of the on-board vertically mounted arrangement with the vehicle submitting energy to on-board battery pack through high-frequency rectifier and buck converter to inject controlled charging current. A 3.3kW@320V non conductive charging gun is sized and the operational validation is carried out through simulation.
