High Power Density HV DCDC Converter for Aerospace

Achieving high efficiency and high-power density is a critical goal in many power electronics applications. LLC resonant converter has been proved as an excellent topology to achieve this goal. The growing popularity of the split resonant capacitor-based LLC resonant converter in its half-bridge configuration is due to its higher efficiency, higher power density and reliability. This configuration features the low level of EMI emissions too. Such features perfectly fit the power supply demand in the More Electric Aircraft (MEA). One of the major difficulties that engineers are facing with this topology is to understand the converter detail operation especially at the critical boundary conditions to operate in the soft switching mode and the design optimization. The purpose of this paper is to provide a detailed analytical approach of the steady state operation of the topology that we translated into a converter design procedure for aerospace power supply to achieve zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of primary switches and zero-current switching (ZCS) of secondary side in a wide input voltage range for Split capacitor based Half-bridge LLC resonant converters.
