High Efficient, High Power Intensive DC-DC Converter Solution for 5G Telecom
The 5G networks are causing a notable shift in the Telecom Power System Market. The higher power requirements and increased network distribution associated with 5G technology drive the demand for more advanced and adaptable power solutions. There is a growing market demand to enhance the power capacity of the converter without changing the physical dimensions (1U x 2U size) to accommodate the transition from 4G to 5G technology. Generally, regular rectifiers provide the isolation between AC mains and DC supply. So, there is no need to design isolated converters in telecom applications. This DC-DC converter provides non-isolated output with >97.5% efficiency and a peak power capacity of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$70\mathrm{W}/\text{in}^{3}$</tex>. With a focus on energy efficiency, the market is incorporating energy-saving technologies such as advanced rectifiers, efficient cooling systems, and intelligent power management solutions. These energy-efficient telecom power systems not only lower operational expenses but also help in reducing carbon emissions. This DC-DC converter consists of two identical boost converters connected in parallel and controlled by the interleaved method which has the same switching frequency and phase shift. The boost voltage helps offset the voltage drop across the load lines connected to the radios. As a result, it enables extended battery operation during power outages. The advantages of interleaved boost converters include increased efficiency, reduced size, and improved reliability. This paper presents, the design and implementation of a two-phase interleaved boost converter.
