A Reduced Switching State PWM Single-Stage 3-Phase Matrix Inverter Without Device Voltage Spikes
This research introduces a novel topology and modulation for a single-stage three-phase high-frequency isolated matrix inverter designed to eliminate voltage spikes on the AC side without resorting to traditional clamp circuits. The proposed converter incorporates a modified full bridge on the DC side, creating a step voltage across the transformer secondary to effectively eliminate voltage spikes. Additionally, an innovative modulation strategy is employed on the matrix converter, which would help in the complete elimination of the voltage spike across the devices. The number of switching transitions of the matrix converter employing the proposed modulation strategy would be less than the conventional modulation strategies. Therefore, the switching losses would be less in the proposed solution. The proposed converter also achieves reduced RMS currents and enables soft-switching in most devices, contributing to an overall increase in efficiency and reduced current and voltage stress on the devices.
