Accurate Efficiency Estimation of DC/DC Converters using Automatic Temperature Calibration
An accurate efficiency estimation method ensures proper device selection, thermal design and facilitates further optimization of the design without repeated experimentations. A Temperature Calibrated Efficiency Estimation Method (TCEEM) is proposed in this paper which estimates the efficiency without prior experimentation. The proposed method accounts for the temperature rise in the semiconductor device thus producing better estimations. The proposed algorithm is verified experimentally on a Si-based and a GaN-based 120 W synchronous buck converter. The application of the algorithm in switch selection is also discussed.
