Series Connected High Frequency Link Ripple Power Compensation Strategy for 1-phase Bidirectional Isolated AC- DC Matrix Converters
Addressing the compensation of double line frequency ripple power in the 1-ϕ operation of direct matrix converters is crucial for enhancing some of their key features such as power density, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The available literature provides few solutions pertinent to matrix converter based high frequency isolated AC-DC topologies. Hence, this paper introduces a series connected active ripple power decoupling circuit that operates at the high frequency AC link of such matrix converter topologies. Key working principles are described and an optimal design strategy for the proposed APD converter is explored. Finally, simulation results for a 400 V, 3.45 k W battery charger topology (with a resistor used to emulate the battery load) is shown to validate the proposed concept and provide comparative results.
