A Non-Isolated Modified Quadratic DC-DC Boost Converter in a Stacked Configuration with Reduced Switch Voltage Stress

This paper proposes a non-isolated modified Quadratic DC-DC Boost Converter (mQBC) in a stacked configuration with reduced switch voltage stress while drawing continuous input current. Conventional Quadratic DC-DC Boost Converter (QBC) consists of an active switch, three diodes, two inductors, and two capacitors. However, the voltages across the active switch and the output capacitor are same as the output voltage. The proposed mQBC topology is primarily based on the conventional quadratic boost converter while replacing one of the three diodes with an active switch. Different modes of operation have been explained, and steady-state analysis of the mQBC in continuous conduction mode (CCM) has been done, incorporating the voltage stress across the components and non-ideal voltage gain. A comparative analysis with existing literature is also presented. A dual-loop control strategy is employed to regulate the output voltage of mQBC irrespective of dynamic load variations and changes in input voltage. MATLAB simulation results have been provided to validate the operation and performance of mQBC.
