Design and Analysis of a 6/4 Switched Reluctance Motor for Solar Water Pumping System
This paper presents the design and analysis of a three-phase, 1-horsepower 6/4 Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) for integration within a solar photovoltaic (SPV) array-driven water pumping system. The distinctive features of the SRM, such as high torque density, low inertia, swift response, and reduced losses attributed to the absence of permanent magnets or windings on the rotor, coupled with its extensive speed range capability and simplified control, render it a superior choice compared to DC and AC motors for SPV-powered water pumping applications. To seamlessly integrate the SPV array, a DC-DC boost converter is employed as an intermediary for maximum power extraction. The boost converter assumes a critical role in maintaining continuous and smooth input/output current, providing a wide operational range. Power is delivered to the SRM through the Asymmetrical Half-Bridge (AHB) converter, which effectively regulates phase voltage to achieve precise speed control of the drive. The design, modeling of SRM uses Ansys-Maxwell and simulation utilize MATLAB/Simulink.
