A IMPORTÂNCIA DO PROCESSO DE INCENTIVO A LEITURA NO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL I

From some concerns about reading, and the lack of it at school, we noticed that students have had a withdrawal from reading, especially from reading literature. We know that the reasons for this departure are numerous. But we need to find ways to solve or at least reduce the problem. In this sense, this work is based on the assumption that literary reading has not been encouraged in Elementary School I and that literary texts have been used only as an instrument of analysis or support for the teaching of grammar, thus hindering the development of the reader and taste for the literary text. To confirm or not our assumption, we applied a questionnaire1 with 41 students enrolled in the 5th year of Elementary School I. Based on the ideas of Chiappini (2005) and Compagnon (2009), we present a brief approach on the importance of literature in schools and in the formation of the literary reader, and the relevance of the library space in the school. In this way, we believe it is possible to contribute to the process of training readers of Elementary School I, so that they can have contact with literary works and thus continue the study of literary texts in Elementary School II and High School.
