Management of Descemet Membrane Detachment: A Case Series Emphasizing the Use of Air Injection
Descemet membrane detachment (DMD) is an uncommon but serious complication of ocular surgeries, such as cataract surgery, which can lead to corneal edema and impaired vision if not promptly addressed. This case series investigates the effectiveness of air injection descemetopexy in treating DMD resulting from various ocular procedures, including cataract surgery and vitrectomy.Six cases of DMD are detailed, highlighting clinical presentations, surgical interventions, and postoperative outcomes. Each case was managed with 100% sterile air injection descemetopexy to reattach the detached Descemet membrane. The results demonstrated that air injection descemetopexy successfully reattached the Descemet membrane in all cases, leading to improved corneal clarity and visual acuity.Early and timely intervention with this technique proved crucial in resolving DMD and preventing additional complications.Consequently, air injection descemetopexy appears to be a highly effective method for managing DMD post-ocular surgeries. However, further research is needed to confirm the long-term safety and effectiveness of this approach in a larger group of patients.
