Directives Competencies Most Value to Choose Effective Professionals Managers in The Hotel Sector of the Southeastern of Mexico

Objective: The objective of this research is to determine the management competencies most valued by the hotel sector in the southeast of Mexico, with the purpose of selecting an effective professional as a hotel manager. Theoretical Framework: The literature was reviewed and analyzed, the main existing theories and models on managerial directive competencies, tourism, and the hotel sector in the international and national. Method: This study is exploratory and descriptive, with a quantitative approach. The design is non-experimental and cross-sectional. 20 hotel managers participated. The instrument used was the Cardona and Chinchilla (1999) Management Competencies Questionnaire. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that hotel managers value more the strategic competencies that allow them to satisfy customer needs. In addition, a growing interest was found in intrategic competencies since they value leadership competencies. Finally, personal effectiveness skills are considered fundamental. Research Implications: One of the aspects to consider is that talented human capital is increasingly scarce and difficult to find, which is why an adequate personnel recruitment and selection process is required. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the research literature by expanding knowledge about the managerial competencies that hotel managers need to have. Above all, because studies on the subject are incipient in the Latin American area.
