Comparing Critical Cataloging Procedures and Developing Local Policies in the Context of Digital Library Metadata

The galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM) field currently do not have an authoritative set of critical cataloging policies for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) metadata. This paper examines various critical cataloging methods and literature currently available throughout the GLAM field and reflects on strategies for developing local critical cataloging policies for descriptive metadata elements in the context of non-MARC metadata for digital library collections.

Abstract

The galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM) field currently do not have an authoritative set of critical cataloging policies for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) metadata. This paper examines various critical cataloging methods and literature currently available throughout the GLAM field and reflects on strategies for developing local critical cataloging policies for descriptive metadata elements in the context of non-MARC metadata for digital library collections.
