Wilkie's syndrome: Beyond eating disorders
Eating disorders are multifactorial conditions that significantly impact health, with a prevalence of 1-5% in women and less than 1% in men. While common, it’s important to consider other less common conditions with similar symptoms. This clinical case involves a 13-year-old girl with persistent vomiting, initially diagnosed with a restrictive eating disorder. However, clinical suspicion of obstructive pathology led to an abdominal CT scan revealing findings consistent with Wilkie’s syndrome. This is a rare condition characterized by the compression of the duodenum by the superior mesenteric artery. This diagnosis underscores the importance of considering other causes in patients with similar symptoms. Recognizing Wilkie’s syndrome allows for optimal patient management and targeted treatment.
