3D transparent optical display based on periodically poled lithium niobate

We demonstrate a close-to-eye display technology for mixed reality capable of showing live video which uses nonlinear wave-mixing in periodically poled lithium niobate. The approach allows for a fully transparent display, with high brightness and capable of controlling the localisation of the virtual image and thus holding promise for solving the vergence / accommodation conflict.

Abstract

We demonstrate a close-to-eye display technology for mixed reality capable of showing live video which uses nonlinear wave-mixing in periodically poled lithium niobate. The approach allows for a fully transparent display, with high brightness and capable of controlling the localisation of the virtual image and thus holding promise for solving the vergence / accommodation conflict.
