Advanced Modulation and Coding for Optical Communications

From transmission distances of 10 km to over 10,000 km, from the lowest power consumption and ultra-low latency to the highest spectral efficiency, and from linear channels to deeply nonlinear channels, modulation and coding must be optimized in different ways to meet these diverse needs. We review recent technological advances in this regard. © 2024 The Author(s)

Abstract

From transmission distances of 10 km to over 10,000 km, from the lowest power consumption and ultra-low latency to the highest spectral efficiency, and from linear channels to deeply nonlinear channels, modulation and coding must be optimized in different ways to meet these diverse needs. We review recent technological advances in this regard. © 2024 The Author(s)
