Development of a dance management curriculum: An exploratory study
This study examines the importance of dance management curricula for dance majors and proposes directions for its development. The research analyzes curricula from arts management, sports management, and dance departments to identify key elements for a dance management curriculum. The study emphasizes three main aspects of dance management education: diversifying career paths, strengthening practical job competencies, and expanding the social value of dance. The analysis reveals the need for a balanced curriculum that integrates core arts management principles with hands-on skills, while reflecting the unique characteristics of dance. The study suggests adopting strengths from arts and sports management curricula, adapting them to the dance environment. Proposed courses include dance performance planning, marketing strategy, company management, and program development. The research concludes that developing dance management curricula is crucial for equipping dance majors with the skills to adapt to changing environments while preserving dance's intrinsic value, ultimately contributing to the field's advancement and sustainable development.
