Restarting Neuroleptics in Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome – A Case Series
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but life-threatening side effect of antipsychotic agents. Although the incidence of NMS is rare, it is essential to recognize it at an early stage and take the necessary precautions to prevent mortality and morbidity. Along with the treatment of NMS, the challenge is to treat the concomitant psychiatric symptoms, which become difficult to manage. There are no fixed guidelines or any data available regarding restarting of neuroleptics in a patient who has recovered from NMS. This case series is a set of three cases that reviews the differences in sociodemographic data, clinical presentation, management, and trial of rechallenge of psychotropics in patients with symptoms suggestive of NMS in a tertiary care hospital.
