Exploring the Uterotonic Potential of Saussurea lappa in Obstetric Care
Kushta (Saussurea lappa) is a perennial plant used in Ayurvedic, Unani and Chinese systems of medicine. This paper aims to evaluate the role of Kushta (Saussurea lappa) in obstetric care, especially about labour induction and uterine contractions. The bioactive compounds present in the herb include costunolide and dehydrocostus lactone, which implies that the herb is useful in stimulating uterine contractions.Early research shows it is effective, but large-scale clinical trials are required to determine its safety and efficacy. The study focuses on the possibility of using Kushta (S.L.) as a natural remedy in the contemporary practice of obstetrics. It stresses the need for further research to determine the proper application of the remedy.
