Studying the relationship betweenSerum Copper levels and Vitamin D in Alopecia Areata patients with Controls in India

Introduction: Background: Copper (Cu) which are co-factors of metalloenzymes, have a substantial influence on almost every metabolic activity that takes place in internal organs, including the metabolism of the skin.OBJECTIVE: In this investigation, the essential mineral copper and Fat-soluble vitamin i.e. vitamin D levels were estimated in these patients .METHODS: We used atomic absorption spectrometry to check the levels of copper and vitamin D in the blood of 150 people with alopecia areata and 150 healthy individuals. We also discussed the relevance of the differing serum concentrations of the two metals.RESULTS: Compared to healthy controls, individuals with alopecia areata had much lower blood levels of vitamin D. Patients with alopecia areata had somewhat lower serum copper levels than healthy controls. CONCLUSIONWe suggest that serum Copper & Vitamin D assay should be included in the chemical assessment of patients with alopecia areata.
