Millfields Unit: Unveiling the factors behind its closure and examining the mechanisms responsible

This article describes the treatment model of a psychodynamically informed medium-secure therapeutic community in the UK for high-risk male offenders with personality disorder, as designated by the offender personality disorder (OPD) pathway. It then explores the complex institutional dynamics behind its eventual closure, in the context of a complex array of organisational dynamics that came to mirror aspects of the patients' psychopathology.
