Ergo Align Cushion: A Haptic-Visual Feedback System to Promote Dynamic Sitting in Office Settings

As digital advancements transform the workplace, office roles have evolved, compelling employees to remain seated for 10 to 12 hours daily. Prolonged sedentary behavior has emerged as a significant health concern, associated with increased risks of metabolic syndromes, cardiovascular diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders. This study introduces the Ergo Align Cushion, an innovative haptic-visual feedback system designed to promote dynamic sitting among office workers. The system utilizes a 48-point pressure sensor grid and vibration feedback modules embedded within an office seat cushion to dynamically monitor and adjust the user's sitting posture. Real-time visual feedback on the center of pressure distributions and sitting duration encourages movement and proper alignment. A developed prototype has shown promising results in improving posture and reducing subjective fatigue. This paper details the design, implementation, and testing of the Ergo Align Cushion, highlighting its potential to enhance office ergonomics and worker well-being.
