A INFLUÊNCIA DO PASSADO NAS MUDANÇAS SOCIAIS CONTEMPORÂNEAS
The analysis addresses how historical legacy continues to significantly influence contemporary social transformations, highlighting the complex and dynamic relationship between past and present. Social structures, norms and values inherited from the past remain active in today’s societies, whether through the perpetuation of traditions or the reinterpretation of historical events to justify or challenge modern practices. Understanding the past is more than a simple act of remembering; it is an active process that directly impacts the formation of identities and decision-making in the present. The concept of “collective memory” is used to explain how different social groups reconstruct the past in ways that meet their contemporary needs and narratives. This memory is seen as dynamic, being constantly reevaluated and recontextualized, which allows the past to become a tool of power and resistance in current social struggles. Furthermore, the analysis discusses how social inequalities and power relations are reinforced or challenged through specific interpretations of the past, suggesting that contemporary social changes can only be fully understood with a critical analysis of their historical roots. To understand the social transformations of the present, it is crucial to consider the ongoing influence of the past, which not only conditions current realities but also offers possibilities for new forms of social action and transformation. The past, therefore, remains a vital component in the social fabric, shaping and being shaped by contemporary realities.
