Morphometric&MorphologicalStudyofDryHumanCalcanei
This investigation of the calcaneum's complicated anatomy and morphometric sheds insight on its critical function in foot biomechanics and its significance in a number of medical treatments. A foot's complex movements are made possible by the three unique facets of the articulations between the calcaneum and talus. The anterior talar facet articulates with the anterior aspect, which is supported by the calcaneal beak. In contact with the middle talus facet is the middle calcaneal facet, which is supported by the sustentaculum tali. In addition to its articulations, the calcaneum is a crucial support structure for balance, shock absorption, and weight distribution because it is a component of the medial and lateral longitudinal arches of the foot. The calcaneum, cuboid, navicular, cuneiforms, and metatarsals make up the medial arch, while the lateral arch consists of the calcaneum, cuboid, and lateral metatarsals. The study also emphasizes the importance of calcaneal shape in therapeutic settings. Age-related conditions like obesity, osteoarthritis, and heel discomfort are all associated with plantar calcaneal spurs, which are frequently seen in radiography studies of elders. Due to the abundant vascular supply in this area, fractures involving the posterior calcaneal groove have the potential to cause considerable bleeding. The calcaneum's morphometric and morphological findings from the study offer important information for a range of surgical procedures. These include joint replacement operations, tarsal fracture screw replacements, talocalcaneal arthritis and coalition management, handling intra-articular fractures, controlling congenital dysmorphology, and halting calcaneal groove hemorrhage.
