Effects Of Gonadotrophins on Ovarian and Uterine Activities in Pentazocine-Treated Rats

Pentazocine + hCG + PMSG at the dose levels of 0.75 mg body weight was administered to normal cycling rats for 21 -25 days through intraperitoneal routes. In the present study it is surprising to note that gonadotrophins administration to pentazocine treated rats has failed to increase the ovarian weight and rate of folliculogenesis significantly, when administered separately or in combination. This may be due to the fact that due to optimum endogenous steroid feedback; the pituitary gonadotrophins release is reduced and the exogenous gonadotrophins.Administered in pentazocine treated rats has caused a slight but not significant increase in the ovarian weight which may be the optimum response of ovary at this dose level. As a result, there is an increase in the uterine histometric parameters like diameter of uterus, thickness of myometrium and endometrium and height of: epithelial cell. This increase is nonsignificant with hCG, PMSG and hCG + PMSG administration.Administration of gonadotrophins to pentazocine treated rats has caused regression of follicles at some stages. But regression of follicles from stage IA upto stage IIB is nonsignificant and negligible. It may be of natural phenomenon of atresia as saline treated animals also show similar pattern of atresia.Decreased level of cholesterol in uterus after gonadotrophins administration in pentazocine treated rats indicates the increased cholesterol metabolism and normal steroidogenesis.
