Effect of crop establishment methods and nutrient management of rice residues on yields of succeeding lentil

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major cereal crop cultivated at least 95 countries across the globe and provides staple food for more than half of the world’s population. Rice secures food security in the world with challenges of climate change. Transplanted rice (TPR) technique is still predominant method of rice establishment However, due to declining water tables, increasing water scarcity, high labour wages and adverse effects of puddling on soil health, this technique is less profitable. These factors prompt the need for an alternative crop establishment method i,e. Direct seeded rice (DSR). A field experiment was carried out at Agricultural research farm at Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda.(UP) during two consecutive year 2022-23 to 2023-24 in split plot design with two main factor of crop establishment method i,e. Direct seeded Rice (DSR) and Transplanted Rice (TPR). With sub factor (7) as treatments. Study was comprises with seven treatments viz, T1 (Control), T2 (100% RDF (120:60:60), T3 (100% RDF + FYM @ 5 tons ha-1), T4 (75% RDF + FYM @ 5 tons ha-1), T5 (125% RDF + FYM @ 5 tons ha-1) , T6 (50% N as basal + RDF (P & K) + two foliar spray of Nano N at 30 & 60 DAS) and T7 (Omission-N) were applied in rice and these treatments reflected residual response on lentil with RDF 20:60:20:20 (N:P:K:S). The residual effect of these treatments on seed per pod-1, test weight, Harvest index (%) and yields were studied on rainfed succeeding lentil. A Significantly higher production of yields of succeeding lentil at plot received 125% RDF + FYM @ 5 tons ha-1 (T5) all the treatments except T3 (100% RDF + FYM @ 5 tons ha-1). The coupling of organic and inorganic source in rice reflect the positive correlation with succeeding lentil, enhance the nutrient status of OC (0.14%), Available N (24.81 kgha-1), Available P (7.61 kgha-1) and Exchangeable K (25.33 kg ha-1) during experimental years 2022-23 and 2023-24.
