Metagenome Analysis of the Bacterial Communities of mangrove sediments from Neil Island of Andamans

Unculturable bacterial communities associated with the mangrove sediment samples, of the Neil Island of the Andamans were studied using Roche platform GS-FLX. During the quality control, a total of 5,150 sequence reads were taken for analysis. A minimum of 683 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) referring to the five taxonomic members have been reported. There were 90 abundant genera recorded, 64 bacteria and 26 actinobacteria including rare actinobacterial genera. Thus, it revealed the unculturable diversity that could help in exploring the unexplored marine habitats for isolating novel microbes, producing biologically active metabolites that can be used for human benefits.
