Turkmenistan will develop transit corridors
Significance Having recently signed a raft of agreements, Turkmenistan has boosted its chances of becoming an important transit route for pan-Eurasian infrastructure projects. Ashgabat has not indicated a preference for any specific trade corridor. Instead, it is willing to consider seemingly opposing initiatives to elevate its regional influence. Impacts Georgia will begin construction of the deep-sea port of Anaklia to boost its position on the Middle Corridor. Armenia, Iran and India will collaborate on developing the transnational corridor from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea via Georgia. China will push forward with its plans to initiate construction on the much-delayed China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
