GENDER EQUALITY IN THE ARAB WORLD: MYTH OR REALITY?
In the 21st century, the issue of gender equality is highly relevant due to the rapid spread of ideas and theories facilitated by globalization and informatization. Concurrently, the growth of civil society in the Arab world, which is increasingly intolerant of violations against women's rights, highlights the tension between traditional conservative views and emerging progressive values. This abstract aims to analyze the current situation of gender equality in the region, with a focus on Egypt as a case study. The authors evaluate measures implemented to address gender equality issues by examining existing research, documents from international and local organizations, legislative actions by the Egyptian government, and relevant statistical data. The study reveals the impact of various factors – economic, political, religious, and cultural – on gender equality. Notable progress is observed in the recognition by both civil society and government structures of the importance of these issues for achieving sustainable development and social justice. The abstract also assesses the diverse recommendations of international organizations aimed at advancing gender equality in the region.
