Submarine Power Connections: A Key Element in Unlocking the Energy Transition to a More Sustainable Future
Global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions reached historic peaks in recent years despite impressive gains for renewables. As electrification of the worldwide energy system continues to grow, the need for clean and affordable low-carbon technologies to produce this electricity is more pressing than ever. Among other sustainable resources, wind power holds exceptional value. Advances in turbine generation capacity, grid hardening, and asset efficiency are key industry drivers harnessing wind’s true potential, and submarine high-voltage (HV) cables are the main enablers. To meet the global target of the International Energy Agency’s Sustainable Development Scenario of >500 GW of offshore wind energy in 2040, cable manufacturers are investing heavily in developing innovative, more sustainable, and cost-effective cable solutions to support the transition to smarter and greener power grids.
