Risk of Autism After Prenatal Topiramate, Valproate, or Lamotrigine Exposure
(Abstracted from N Engl J Med 2024;390:1069–1079) Individuals with epilepsy usually are recommended to continue their treatment during pregnancy, though many antiseizure medications are known teratogens. Valproate in particular has been associated with fetal anomalies and decreased neurocognitive function in prenatally exposure children.
