HISTÓRIA E MORFOLOGIA DA RAÇA QUARTO DE MILHA: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
The origin of the breed dates back to America in the 1600s, being one of the oldest and most influential breeds on the American continent. The Quarter Horse is recognized for its exceptional speed and endurance over long distances, and is suitable for athletic and agricultural work. The introduction of the breed in Brazil in 1955 and the formation of the Brazilian Association of Quarter Horse Breeders – ABQM, were the main milestones that formalized the importance of the breed in Brazil. The Quarter Horse is also reputed for its physical characteristics of robust, compact and muscular body, suitable for work in diversified sports activities such as: Three Drums, Vaquejada and short distance races. Beyond the sport, the breed reveals immense economic impact with billions of dollars obtained through sales and marketing. ABQM's work is vital for the standardization and continuity of the development of this type, and for the maintenance of its intense continuation in the national and international niche.
