Effects Of Simultaneous Aerobic And Resistance Training On The Intervention Of Cognitively Impaired Elderly: A Meta-analysis

PURPOSE: To systematically evaluate the effect of aerobic and resistance training on cognitive function in elderly people with cognitive impairment METHODS: Randomized controlled trials on the effects of aerobic and resistance training on cognitive function in the elderly were searched by computer from CNKI, VEPp Chinese Journal database, PubMed, Web of Science and EBSCO databases from the establishment of the database to March 2023. Cochrane bias risk assessment tool was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included literature, Revman5.4.1 was used for meta-analysis, and Stata12.0 software Egger test was used to test publication bias. RESULTS: A total of 10 studies were included in the analysis, with a sample size of 556 patients. Compared with the control group, aerobic and resistance concurrent training improved the overall cognitive function of the elderly (SMD = 0.80, 95%CI (0.32, 1.27), P = 0.001), MMES score (MD = 2.29, 95%CI (0.83, 3.75), and MMES score (SMD = 0.80, 95%CI (0.32, 1.27), MMES score (MD = 2.29, 95%CI (0.83, 3.75). P = 0.002), MoCA score (MD = 5.03, 95%CI (4.44, 5.63), P < 0.00001). CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that aerobic and resistance simultaneous training has obvious intervention effect on cognitive function of the elderly and can improve the cognitive function of the elderly, among which the cognitive function intervention effect of the elderly with cognitive impairment is better than that of the elderly without cognitive impairment, and it is an effective means to prevent cognitive function decline. It is recommended that the elderly with cognitive impairment decline to carry out low-intensity aerobic and resistance training for 24 weeks at the same time, and the weekly exercise duration is greater than 120 min. The resistance exercise adopts equipment resistance, which can better improve cognitive function. To sum up, elderly people with cognitive impairment are encouraged to combine aerobic and resistance exercises for regular practice if their physical and mental conditions permit. In addition, existing studies are relatively limited, and future experiments are still needed to further explore the effects of the intervention sequence and intensity of aerobic and resistance exercise on cognitive function in the elderly.
