Utilizing International Cardiac Rehabilitation Registry (icrr) Data For Enhanced Functional Capacity Post-cardiac Rehabilitation: A Multidisciplinary Intervention Approach

PURPOSE: This study utilized data from the International Cardiac Rehab Registry (ICRR) to bolster the quantitative and qualitative functional capacity of post-Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) patients, targeting 0.5 MET (ICRR Benchmark) in the 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT). METHODS: A multidisciplinary team integrating ICRR data was organized, comprising cardiopulmonary rehabilitation specialists, physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists, and yoga therapists. Baseline data (July 2022 to December 2022) from the ICRR served as the foundation before intervention. Interventions: Leveraging ICRR data, various strategies were implemented, including enhancing the FITT principle in outpatient rehabilitation, refining patient/staff education programs, remodeling patient-reported variables in assessments, and emphasizing compliance with home programs. Barriers: ICRR-based analysis highlighted cultural, financial, and patient-related barriers, emphasizing the importance of continual education, early enrolment, and holistic rehabilitation approaches. RESULTS: Initial findings using ICRR data revealed that 57% of patients met the benchmark value in the 6MWT. ICRR data identified factors such as shorter program duration, lack of adherence to home programs, out-of-pocket payment, and incomplete assessment variables as barriers to those who did not achieve the benchmarks. Subsequent ICRR-informed assessments (January 2023 to November 2023) showcased an improvement, with 71% of patients achieving the targeted MET value compared to just 57% in the pre-intervention period. The findings from the study demonstrate an improvement in functional capacity post-intervention. CONCLUSION: This study underscores the significance of leveraging International Cardiac Rehab Registry (ICRR) data in a multidisciplinary intervention strategy to enhance functional capacity post-Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR). Continued efforts in utilizing ICRR data, patient education, program refinement, and guideline adherence are vital for sustained improvements. Grammerly,
