Associations Of Quality Of Life, Physical Activity, School Adaptionin Only-child Or Non-only Children

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to examine relationships between quality of life (QOL), physical activity (PA), school adaption (SA) in Only- child or Non-only Children of secondary school students. METHODS: Participants were drawn from 10 regions in China by random sampling and a final sample size of 12,215 was obtained, male 6,241 (51.09%) and female 5,974 (48.91%) , only- child 3,851 (31.63%), non-only children 8,364 (68.37%), with age 13.6 ± 7.7. PA was measured using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents, and reliability of questionnaire was analyzed by Cronbach's Alpah (α = 0.879). SA was measured by the use of School Social Behavior Scale (SSBS), which was further divided into the social skills (Cronbach's α = 0.966) and antisocial behavior (Cronbach's α = 0.971) components. QOL was measured utilizing the Quality of Life Scale for Children and Adolescents (QLSCA) (Cronbach's α = 0.958), (KMO = 0.97). Logic regression was used to analyze these relationships. RESULTS: Logic regression showed that PA was positively correlated with QOL and SA. In only child, the result demonstrate that PA are associated with QOL (β = 1.947, SE = 0.550, p < 0.01), social skills (β = 1.207, SE = 0.590, p < 0.01). Meanwhile PA are also associated with antisocial behavior (β = 6.451, SE = 0.514, p < 0.01). Theser the two models are (95%CI = -0.105 - -0.108) and (95%CI = 1.001 - 3.185), respectively. In non-only children, PA are associated with QOL (β = 5.780, SE = 0.322, p < 0.01), social skills (β = 4.547, SE = 0.385, p < 0.01). In addition, PA are associated with antisocial behavior (β = 3.482, SE = 0.287, p < 0.01). The two models are (95%CI = 0.057 - 0.085) and (95%CI = -0.077 - -0.050), respectively. For the non-only children, compared to only- child, the higher the association of PA with QOL and social skills, but the association of PA with antisocial behavior was lower than that of only- child. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that PA is significantly associated with QOL and school adaptation in only- child or non-only children, SA is critical component for PA and QOL in school setting.
