Comparison Of Physical Fitness Of Ssireum Wrestling And Judo Athletes
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to compare the physical fitness of korean traditional wrestling Ssireum()(SS) wrestling(WR) and judo(JD) athletes in order to provide foundational data for a training program tailored to the physical characteristics of ssireum athletes. METHODS: The study included 15 ssireum , 16 wrestling, and 18 judo athletes selected as adult participants. And Basic physical fitness, isokinetic strength, and anaerobic power were measured. Measurement results were organized and statistical analysis was conducted using Windows SPSS 26.0. Descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA(3RG) were performed to confirm differences between the sports, and post hoc analysis was used Scheffe's. RESULTS: The result of basic fitness differences, left and right grip strength, SS (57.21 ± 5.93, 60.60 ± 4.73 kg) showed higher values than WR (46.67 ± 4.33, 47.61 ± 5.04 kg) and JD (49.78 ± 8.59, 49.69 ± 8.08 kg) (p < .001). Average grip strength also demonstrated that SS (58.90 ± 5.16 kg) surpassed WR (47.12 ± 4.06 kg) and JD (49.69 ± 8.08 kg) (p < .001). Additionally, SS exhibited the highest abdominal strength (179.82 ± 12.90 kg) compared to WR (155.11 ± 12.29 kg) and JD (155.48 ± 21.83 kg) (p < .001). In push ups, WR (83.00 ± 17.27) outperformed JD (72.70 ± 15.37) and SS (72.70 ± 15.37) (p < .001). Pull ups showed a sequence with WR (67.23 ± 5.66), JD (51.95 ± 9.25), and SS (43.92 ± 7.11) (p < .001). However, coordination showed a significant difference, with JD (48.25 ± 4.42 seconds) having higher scores than SS (43.11 ± 3.35 seconds) (p = 0.002). In the Wingate test for anaerobic power, SS demonstrated higher peak power per body weight (9.62 ± 0.66 watts/kg) compared to JD (8.81 ± 0.87 watts/kg) (p = 0.007). However, JD showed lower average power per body weight (6.60 ± 0.52 watts/kg) compared to SS (7.01 ± 0.34 watts/kg) and WR (7.01 ± 0.40 watts/kg). Fatigue index was highest in SS (60.09 ± 3.97%), followed by WR (54.27 ± 3.65%) and JD (54.93 ± 8.70%). CONCLUSIONS: Muscle strength and abdominal strength were highest in SS, while muscle endurance and coordination were lowest. Based on these characteristics of ssireum, coaches in the field should consider the sport's unique features and implement training plans to enhance upper body strength to achieve higher performance levels.
